King Henry VIII and his Queen, Ann Boleyn stayed at Thornbury Castle and attended Mass at St. Mary’s Church just behind. Although this cross was found in the church, it is locally referred to as the Thornbury Cross. It dates from the late 14th century when work to rebuild the church was begun. Both the castle and the church are located in the beautiful English Cotswolds.
