The name, Christopher, means “Christ-bearer" which has been applied to several different real or legendary persons through history. He may be the same figure as the Coptic Saint Menas.
His most famous legend, which is mainly known in the West, tells that he carried a child, who was unknown to him, across a river before the child revealed himself as Christ.
